WW Mid-Year Review 2022 (4/4)

Part 4 : Management

This is part 4 of the Weyrdworks 2022 mid-year review where we talk about management. You can check out part 1 here, part 2 here and part 3 here for more context leading up to this topic. In this post, we’ll glance through some feedback from our team towards our management style and how effective we are as managers.

1. Are you proud to work for our organisation?

Our first questions starts off with knowing if the name Weyrdworks generates a positive response. This gives us a hint of whether our goals align with that of our team.

2. Management scores

Here we have a series of ratings given to our management team on trust, respect and recognition. This has generally not changed much but there is a noticeable drop in transparency in the last slide. You can read the direct feedback on our failure at being transparent in the following sub-topic.

On a scale of 1 to 10, do you feel appreciated by management for the work that you do?

How comfortable do you feel providing upward feedback to your supervisor?

How respected do you feel by your direct supervisor?

How transparent is the management team?

3. Direct personal Feedback for JT & Shawn

In this mid-year review, we added a new question and invited our developers to give us personal feedback directed to us as individuals. Obviously, there are references to third parties and others that had to be redacted, but the general essence of the message remains below.

In entry 1 and 4, there were some regrettable communication breakdown. This was a misstep on managements’ part in certain decisions made without first consulting the team and messy handling in our employee’s transition out of the team. I can’t exactly go into detail about our faults, but this is duly noted for future improvements. We did the best we could at the time with what we knew.

On entry 6; Remember when I said JT was the nicest person in the world? Well he can be bad cop whenever he needs to be. I’m not responsible for that.

4. Are we a better organization now than we were six months ago?

Once again, the responses below have been edited and reordered to protect the anonymity of the entries. Names or indirect references to particular individuals were also omitted for the same reasons.

There’s always more to improve upon. This bit nicely summarises the entire series.
